What is free? Do I need a subscription for AI?
Today's recommended chapter is free, and you may deliberately keep 10 more chapters free on this device. Browsing or searching the directory does not use a slot. Public comics and essays require no sign-in. Sign in for 3 free AI questions per day, resetting at 00:00 UTC. Companion members have unlimited questions, subject to reasonable concurrency, rate and abuse safeguards.
How does Permanent Reading differ from Companion?
Permanent Reading is a one-time purchase of access to all 81 chapters; your 3 daily free AI questions remain available after sign-in. Unlimited AI, automatic memory and weekly reflections require a separate monthly or annual Companion subscription, which also includes all chapters. Check the in-app screen for local prices, benefits and renewal terms. Web purchases currently go through the iPhone / iPad app.
How do the web and app editions differ?
The web edition opens in a browser and makes trying and sharing reading easy. The iPhone / iPad app bundles all 81 chapter texts for offline reading; comics load online on demand and AI requires an internet connection. Use the same account for corresponding membership access across editions. They share a chapter library, but web updates may precede App Store releases. Features depend on the installed version.
Which languages and devices are supported? Is there an Android app?
Reading and all 81 comics are available in Chinese and English, with pinyin in the Chinese original-text layer. Wendao provides a browser edition and an iPhone / iPad app. Android readers can use the web edition; this page does not offer an Android package. Installation depends on your device and regional App Store listing.
Is this a literal facsimile of the Silk B manuscript?
No. The primary witness is Mawangdui Silk Text B; the transcription, edited base reading and contemporary interpretation are distinguished, with supplied characters marked 〔〕. The English classical-text layer uses the public-domain James Legge translation as a received-text comparison, not a literal translation of every damaged Silk B graph. Comics and practices are contemporary creations.
Is the AI Laozi? Can it decide for me?
AI Wendao is an AI inspired by the classic, using chapter context and ongoing conversation to offer perspectives. It is not the historical Laozi. Replies may be wrong and do not guarantee an outcome or make decisions for you. They do not replace medical, mental health, legal or financial professionals.
How can I control memory and personal information?
You can inspect, edit, pause or delete memories. Deactivating a memory does not delete conversation history. Product usage analytics are off by default and optional. Avoid sharing private identifiers, payment details or other people’s private information. See the privacy notice for data handling details.
Editorial checks and corrections
The public stories disclose AI-assisted drafting and editing. Quotations, chapter references and access statements are checked against the product library; this is not independent academic peer review. Meaningful corrections keep the original URL and update the revision date. The textual witness notes appear beside the full chapter; see them before treating an excerpt as the complete original.
